Age of Mythology

Garth, Mathew and I have been playing a lot of AOM these days. We started with Greeks and Zeus as our major god and began to learn. Later, I switched to Egypatians and Set as my major god.

All hail Bast!

All hail Sekhmet the destroyer and all-seeing eye of Ra!

Egyptians are difficult to play against rushers because Egyptians are fairly weak until they have advanced to the highest ages. By the time you've done that, the game is all over. I do like Anubi and the focus on myth units, however I've since returned to Greeks and Zeus. So much for those false gods Bast and Sekhmet! Harumph!

Rome: Total War

This is my latest purchase and rated very highly. I like Rome: Total War because it merges strategy with tactical warfare.

Diablo

Although released in 1996, I hadn't started playing Diablo until 2004 as a diversion from my Age Of Conquerors campaigns. Mathew is a level 40 Mage, Garth is a level 20-something archer babe and I'm a low 20's level Warrior named Speaker (of course). Warriors have a very hard time of it in Diablo so my character needs periodic armor and weapons upgrades. Otherwise I die quickly.

Doom

Yes, I still play this classic first person shooter. Doom Legacy is the best of the newer Doom ports. My favorite Doom level editor is DeepSea but not much point pursuing Doom level design since most everyone I know has moved on to OpenGL FPS's. I've also started playing the new Doom 3. Nice graphics. Good scripting support. Socks are still on my feet.

Spaceward Ho!

Loved playing this Macintosh-only game back in 1990 and still enjoy the occasional game with a friend of mine. A totally charming turn-based space strategy game.

Unreal Tournament

I've always favored Unreal Tournament due to its solid as a rock network support and game play. Unfortunately the graphics engine in the first few releases of Unreal Tournament was rather shakey. The graphics engine used in Unreal Tournament 2003 and 2004 are absoutely breathtaking. Mathew, Garth and I have played all of the UT versions through 2004. I am so impressed by the UT 2004 engine, network support, fast rendering and level designs possible that I'm converting all of my work over to the Unreal Tournament engine. My FPS of choice!

Age Of Conquerors

This is our favorite strategy game, although the emphasis is more on real-time play than on developing a well-formed military strategy. For the most part we play random maps in DeathMatch mode, post-Imperial, 200 units, 6 total civs and a 45 minute time limit. Our favorite opponent civs are Persians, Huns and Chinese. Because I like seige weapons and calvalry, I play Celts almost exclusively.

Console Games

I bought a Playstation 2 mostly for the Crash Bandicoot series. I also play Ratchet and Clank (101 ways to blow something up). The Playstation doesn't get as much use as I'd like thanks to the limitations of the hardware. I also play the occasional Xbox game with Nik, one of Grey's kids.

Other Games

Lots of other games... Command And Conquer, Empire Earth, SimCity, Age Of Mythology, the Quake series and more.

My Online Persona

So who thinks they've got what it takes to kick this warcat's butt?
